International Workshops

READINGAMERICA

READINGAMERICA is an enjoyable and stimulating on-site (or on Zoom) 90-minute monthly workshop. Through this unique reading and discussion group, participants can enhance their knowledge of American life and of the English language.

In turn, the participants will work more effectively and efficiently with their colleagues, here and abroad. A short reading will be distributed prior to each workshop. Instructor-led discussions will examine the language and content of the article. Participants will benefit from the insight they will gain about the American workplace, customs, history, and culture.

READINGAMERICA can be designed specifically for your company´s needs. This cross-cultural workshop sensitizes the participants to the subtleties of work habits, interpersonal interactions, and social customs of many cultures.

The workshop is led by a native German living in Pittsburgh and a native American who lived abroad in France. This experience provides the participants with many different perspectives on the ex-pat experience. We have been organizing and conducting groups like this for the last four years with great success and enthusiasm.

In a warm and welcoming setting, these expats will be treated to fascinating and thought-provoking information about living in the USA. As the participants become more comfortable with the English language, expressions, and cultural norms they will feel increasingly at home in the United States. From learning American pronunciation to discovering Pittsburgh, LIVINGAMERICA covers the essential topics for a new, confident, and comfortable life in the USA.

Participants will have the chance to talk with other new ex-pats as well as to hear from others who have already made this journey. The workshop is a two-hour session, once a week for eight weeks. All materials will be provided.

Each participant builds a bridge between their own culture and that of the American lifestyle.
